Kamala Harris has been sworn in as vice president of the United States, becoming the first woman, first Black person and first Asian American to hold the office. She is also the first graduate of a historically Black college and the first member of a Black sorority, specifically member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated to do so.
Her personality is dynamic, and she knows how to handle business when duty calls!
Justice Sonia Sotomayor administered the oath. Sotomayor, the first woman of color to serve on the Supreme Court, previously administered the vice presidential oath to Biden in 2013.
Harris used two Bibles in the ceremony. The first belonged to Regina Shelton, a family friend whom Harris viewed as a surrogate mother. Harris has used this Bible before, when she took the oath of office as both California attorney general and U.S. senator. The second Bible was previously owned by the late Justice Thurgood Marshall, the first Black member of the Supreme Court and Harris’ lifelong political role model. – via NPR

On Election Day, I worked nonstop 6am to 9pm. I’d do it all over again to help facilitate the Democratic process! We had to set up the precinct the night before. We were in meetings and webinars during the summer, classes in the fall, plus so much more—all to ensure fairness and a safe voting experience. Even Republicans are stating how the Democratic process must prevail regardless of the outcome. For once, almost everyone is on the same page—this is needed in the days, months and years ahead. Keep the FAITH and spread it! Imagine how in 1964 when Vice President Elect Kamala Harris was born, African American women still did not have the right to vote! Delayed but not denied! This speaks volumes….This is a great start but we have a whole lot of work to do. God help us all and continue to work everything together for our good! We were Kings and Queens who were snatched from our homelands, enslaved, and went from picking cotton over generations to picking a president. Now we’re witnessing a woman of both African descent (Jamaican) and South Asian descent from an HBCU (Historically Black College and University) rise to be elected to the second highest seat in the land. It’s a new day. This shift in the atmosphere has been happening all quarter, and now the best is yet to come! This entire year has been a roller coaster ride for sure for so many! My heart and prayers go out to anyone who has lost anyone up to this very day in our story (history). My heart and prayers equally go out to anyone in a financial crisis situation that they cannot seem to see their way through or out. These are truly trying times for us all in varying degrees. One thing I know for sure: God is real, His uncommon favor is real, His grace and mercies never cease, and if you believe, you are covered by the precious blood of Jesus.
Never give up. As the late Dr. (Bishop) Frank Summerfield used to say: Pressure the problem with prayer, praise and perseverance!
My life is truly a living testimony of what I like to call #RelentlessResilience. Even as I write this, I face circumstances that truly require a child-like faith. We all do from time to time. This year has been exceptional in its share of valleys and challenges. Always remember, that it is in the darkness that we need to heal from the inside out through our inner dialogue with ourselves to become the light we need to make it out of the tunnel into our Breakthrough Success! Greater is coming. You must feel it before you see it in order to achieve it! Joy truly comes in the morning!
These may be strange times but remember there`s nothing new under the sun. We must use this time to correct our mistakes and prepare for the unknown knowing that God is ultimately in control of it all but also that faith without works is dead. We must be diligent in our efforts to thrive in spite of the obstacles. You get what you focus on. Stay the course on the journey to success, love, self-care, prosperity, peace and freedom to be who you are destined to become! The answers are inside of you. Lean in to expand!
I choose to continue to pray, praise and consistently persevere through to the victory that is mine! Your victory is in your next step, your next effort, your next second of gratitude, and your next choice to believe that in spite of all that is going on in the world, you truly can do ALL things through Christ no matter what situations look like. Keep the faith. Keep your eyes on the promise and the prize! See it, feel it, say it and believe it so you can walk into your blessings that are waiting for you on the other side!

There are thousands of names and now one more is added: Jacob Blake. The only difference is that this time the victim actually lived to tell his side of the story. The other difference is people in America of ALL races are fed up with this type of implicit bias, systemic racism, The Empire of institutionalized racism is on the brink of finally falling apart at the seams.
My heart and prayers go out to Jacob Blake’s children and the countless other children and witnesses who are now traumatized for life. This country must atone for its millions or dare I say trillions of sins against the people who built this country on their backs through both free AND unjustly paid labor. 🔥
America needs a deep therapy session in order to even acknowledge the wrongs over generations. Proof of this is in the comments made last night during the Republican National Convention. CNN reported today that police shot Blake, a 29-year-old Black man, at close range Sunday evening as he tried to enter an SUV. In the vehicle were his 3-, 5- and 8-year-old sons, family attorney Ben Crump said.
Following the shooting, the injured man was flown to a hospital in Milwaukee. He remained in intensive care late Monday, his lawyer said.
“Thank God he’s alive,” Jacob Blake’s uncle, Justin Blake, told CNN. “We’re just praying for a great recovery, that he may have a great quality of life and that his father, my brother, can enjoy him.”
Only police reform will stop protests, Crump says
Enraged protesters poured onto the streets Sunday evening after video of the shooting circulated on social media. In it, two officers trail a step or two behind Blake as he walks around a gray SUV. As he reaches the driver door and opens it, the nearest officer grabs the tail of Blake’s tank top, and seven shots are heard, followed by a sustained sound of a car horn as Blake collapses into the car.
Per CNN, two Kenosha officers are on administrative leave. The local police union has urged the public to withhold judgment until a state investigation is complete.

I spoke out against domestic violence at one of my first workshops at North Carolina A&T State University as a new Alpha Phi initiate and still became a victim years later. It can happen to anyone.
By the grace of God, I had Nia and continue to thrive today. I’ve been divorced from that situation and the person attached to it since 2005 and God blessed me 4 years ago with My amazing Omega Man whose heart was made to love me. He loves Nia as his own. I’m beyond grateful. ❤️
I’m grateful for peace, love, passion, joy and happiness. Is he perfect? No. Am I? No. Together we’re perfect in Christ and perfectly imperfect together by the Grace of God. I’m no longer afraid. I’m finally safe. We are each other’s lighthouse of love on safe harbors.

Let us remember that people with melanin are human beings with the same rights as those lacking melanin. There is only one race – the human race. No more systemic genocide. As a American who is called Black only because of a social construct called “race” that was created to oppress humans who have melanin in their skin, I come to you today to invite you to have a very timely #CourageousConversation. Many surely will see the videos and ask me, “Toy, have you always celebrated Juneteenth?” My answer is actually, “No”. Did I always know about Juenteenth? No, but I knew about it a lot sooner than many of my friends and family. I did teach my history students about it decades ago, but school was always out by the time it rolled around so I wasn’t able to truly incorporate it into any curricular instruction in terms of lesson planning. Still today, I’m not going to push it on anyone, but if you’re willing to learn more to understand why many of us are acknowledging it and why we feel a deeply-rooted moral and social responsibility to educate as many within our sphere of influence–this article is for you, my friend.
This article is my contribution to bring light to a holiday that has been going on for decades but just not acknowledged nationally by the very country that daily supports systems that ignore the value of our very lives and expect us to only partially thrive in it. Yet generation after generation, by the grace of God, we do that which was never originally intended for us and greater works!

“On November 19, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln gave a speech that would be quoted for centuries to come. But what do you really know about the Gettysburg Address? Check out some things you may not know about the iconic speech.
Lincoln’s address starts with “Four score and seven years ago.” A score is equal to 20 years, so he was referencing 87 years ago — 1776, when the Declaration of Independence was signed. The speech was made, then, seven score and seven years ago.
On the day of the speech, Lincoln’s oration was hardly the highlight of the occasion. Instead, the biggest speech belonged to Edward Everett, who spoke for two hours before Lincoln took the podium.
Everett later wrote to Lincoln about his speech, saying, “I wish that I could flatter myself that I had come as near to the central idea of the occasion in two hours as you did in two minutes.”
We get our current text of the speech from the fifth of five written copies, all written in Lincoln’s handwriting. Each copy differs slightly, which probably stems from Lincoln’s self-editing.
The Library of Congress has two copies of the address, the Illinois State Historical Library has one, Cornell University has one and one is in the Lincoln room in the White House.”

Just a few facts:The US was 3rd to last in the Americas to abolish slavery.
The Emancipation Proclamation came abt partially because enslaved people were self-liberating by the thousands. Don’t let them tell you we just waited to be free.#JuneteenthDay
Although we do have a long way to go for systemic changes, we do now have the unique opportunity RIGHT NOW, to give birth through these severe labor pains happening world wide to deliver (birth) a new nation truly conceived in liberty (through the truth, which sets us all free), and dedicated to the proposition that ALL MEN and WOMEN (ALL HUMANS) are created equal.
The new civil war that we are in during this pandemic is a test and opportunity of a lifetime. It all begins and ends with each of us. Are you willing to learn the truth, accept it, face our nation and rebuild it from the infrastructure and systems outward?
The rest of the world is demanding the change along with us this time, but the question is : America — land of the “FREE” and home of the “BRAVE”– are you truly brave enough to let ALL HUMANS LIVE EQUALLY? It’s going to take more than giving us today as a national holiday. It’s going to take more than companies giving employees time off today. It’s going to take more than taking Aunt Jemima off the shelves. Rewrite the history books you have rewritten to give true accounts of who we are and our contributions to this world. Reconstruct legislation that was created to systemically oppress us. Get rid of the word “race” and replace it with human. Yes no more applications. Education for ALL. Access to ALL. God is moving fast. He is forcing your hand America. He has given you so many times to repent and step away from your wicked ways. The truth can no longer be hidden. The whole world knows and is watching this time. Time will once again reveal the nature of the heart of all leaders at all levels. History as we know it is a series of decisions. What side of history will you be on when the new books are written? America, justice is calling and will not stop until you answer.
#OTD in 1865, enslaved African Americans were notified of their freedom by Union troops in Galveston Bay, TX—two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

May the only nation that rises out of this dispensation be a real one that is truly of ALL people, by ALL people and for ALL people — including humans with any shade of melanin in our skin. We have a great work that lies ahead. With God, all things are possible. I boldly declare that true Christians /(insert your religion if it differs here), truly want to see changes and will do their part to care enough to make it happen! May those born during this time have a greater story of a new America to tell their children for generations to come in perpetuity.
On that note:Happy Juneteenth and blessings to all! It is time for us all to grow from the discomfort which is where we are as a nation. Education is truly the pathway to freedom for everyone!
