In a proclamation issued on April 1, 1996, President Bill Clinton declared: “National Poetry Month offers us a welcome opportunity to celebrate not only the unsurpassed body of literature produced by our poets in the past, but also the vitality and diversity of voices reflected in the works of today’s American poetry….Their creativity and wealth of language enrich our culture and inspire a new generation of Americans to learn the power of reading and writing at its best.”
In honor of National Poetry Month, I wanted to share this poem below that I actually wrote earlier this month and I’m just getting a chance to share it with the world. It is dedicated to a very close personal friend of mine who was there for me during one of my shows when I really needed help. Sometimes it’s the little things that make a huge difference. When you are so used to doing everything by yourself sometimes it’s hard to ask for help. This person chose to be there for me and it is the essence of that which touched me most literally to tears.
Today’s poem is ironically entitled “Tears”, but know that these tears are very special. Enjoy!
Tears
It feels so good
To finally cry happy tears…
The taste is so much
Sweeter…
The river that flows is
Joyfilled and I have no clue
where it is going
But I am willing to flow
where it leads
as I continue to dream…
To feel the warmth of joy
Is truly divine
And today I thank God
for these beautiful
And heartfelt tears of mine…
